What a lovely young lady we have here feeding the chickens.  Isn’t this just the pretties scene?

Jacob Maris (born on 25 August 1837 in The Hague, died 7 August 1899 in Karlsbad), another Dutch painter and one of three Maris brothers who belonged to the Hague School of painter, created this wonderful painting.  Although he is considered to be the most important and influential Dutch landscape painter of the last quarter of the nineteenth century, we chose this portrait to introduce you to his works, partly because we like it so much, and partly because you can still see his landscape painting in the background.

Featured a detail of a portrait of Jacob Maris, painted by his brother Matthijs Maris.
